My Exciting Weekend
Jun. 5th, 2006 08:40 pmIt was my folks' 60th Anniversary on Saturday, so everyone was at my brother Tony's house for the party. There is a pool in the back yard for the kids to all swim in. My Great-nephew Evan, who is four got in too deep and started to drown, so I leaped in, dressed and all and saved the little guy. I got him before he took in too much water. I can't believe how people let their children even go near a pool if they don't know how to swim. My brother and his wife kept thanking me over and over again because they would have made the pool into a planter if Evan would have died.
So the next day Evan says to me, "I fell in the pool yesterday, but you came for me." and I said, "Yes, I did." He answered, "That was real good, I was scared." He's so damned cute. I lectured his Mom and my sister his Gramma for a half hour afterwards about how quickly they drown, and I really didn't want to try out my CPR on Evan.
My brothers, all six of them hugged me over and over again and thanked me for being so fast. Thank god we took all of the family pictures before that because I didn't have a change of clothing and I was soaked to the bone for the rest of the night. (In my sister's defense, she couldn't have jumped in, she was holding a ten day old baby and was totally freaked out while I went for Evan.) They were all very careful about him being around the pool from then on.
Doesn't this sound like fun? LOL All in all the party was a huge sucess. Anytime a child doesn't drown, we're happy. Rod kept telling me that he never saw me move that fast in my life. See, I can be good in a crisis. :)
Okay, I'm done talking about drowning. I hope you all had a good weekend.
Hugs, Patt
PS: Margaret, the weekend really did go great. :)

Date: 2006-06-06 07:21 am (UTC)Seriously, I know how fast these things happen, a couple of days ago we had a two year old drown in the local park pond. His parents are screaming for 'fences' around the pond and more patrols, but I want to know what kind of parents let a two year old not only play there alone but cross a main road to get there?
Very well done!
