For Snailbones: French Toast Bake
Aug. 28th, 2015 12:24 pmFrench Toast Bake (It's an ideal breakfast for Christmas morning. Easy, too. Prepare the night before and pop in the oven Christmas morning.)
1/2 cup melted butter (1 stick)
1 cup brown sugar
1 loaf of thickly sliced bread (they mean really thick)
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Powdered sugar for sprinkling
cinnamon for sprinkling
Melt butter in Microwave and add brown sugar... Stir until mixed.
Pour butter/sugar mix into bottom of 9x13 pan-spread around.
Beat eggs, milk and vanilla
Lay single slices of bread in pan
Spoon 1/2 of egg mixture on bread layer.
Add 2nd layer of sliced bread.
Spoon on remaining egg mixture
Cover and chill in fridge overnight.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, leaving it covered for the first 30 minutes.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon.
Serve with warm maple syrup.
PS: I just made mine up for the night and it was so easy it was almost embarrassing. I thought it seemed dry, but we'll see tomorrow. I hope someone else tries this too. :)
