Is there a book you’ve seen made into a film and been disappointed with the result?

I think books are always better than a movie but I can’t think of one that disappointed me. I’ll think of a bunch later. 😁

The trouble with adapting books to films is they have to cut things out, which is always a shame.

That's one where I have only seen the film.

The Giver was very Hunger Gamesified, IIRC. But I wasn't a major fan of The Giver; I read it once in middle school, and liked it, but it wasn't a book I repeatedly went back to. So I can't speak to that too much. I definitely remember feeling the difference, though, and IIRC others did as well.

Nope, I was saying the opposite, kind of... I felt like the movie played hard into being like THG when the book really wasn't, apart from also being a YA Dystopia. I still liked it, but it wasn't the book.

No shade towards THG, by the way! I love those books, and the movies are good too.

I actually remember not liking TKAM movie as much as the book, but I'm not sure why. Gregory Peck was amazing as Atticus, though.

I always thought books were better than their movie versions, and then I tracked down a copy of Nothing Lasts Forever, which is the book that the Die Hard movie is based on and, uh, yeah. That would be the exception. The film is so, so, so, so much better than the book (which is presumably one of the reasons it is out of print)
