You'll never guess what happened today

Shannon, our oldest daughter that lives with us for right now with her four year old daughter, took said daughter to the dentist. The dentist in question is a creep. He deals with all the kids on AHCCCS for Arizona and he's an asshole. WE knew that already. But today, he drilled Samantha's tongue and it's pretty ugly looking, and didn't say I'm sorry, Oops, or fuck you. Didn't say anything. Finished what he had started and then took his gloves off and left in a huff. Shannon didn't know what to say. All she could see was all of the blood coming out of Sam's mouth and she was freaking out. I wasn't in there or I would have kicked his ass, and I mean that. What an arrogant asshole he is. So I called to be sure I had his name right and the guy that answered asked if there was a problem. I told him what happened and turned out he was the one that took care of the bloody mess that the doctor left that day. I told him that I took pictures of the tongue and I was going to see that everyone and anyone that would listen heard about this. I don't say that dentists can't make mistakes. I just think they should own up to them and be polite and nice to the child and parent. He was neither. So now I'm looking online trying to find out how you file a claim for Bad Dentists. Does anyone know where I would start? I'm going to let the state know about it, but I don't want to just stop there. Sam is such a trooper, she tried not to cry and everything. Poor darling. I need some help in finding AMA for dentists. HELP!!!!!

PS: Here are some pictures of Sam's tongue. I couldn't get a good close-up, this doesn't do it justice at all. It's quite long where he drilled. Click on the pictures and you can probably see them a little closer up. *sigh*

UPDATE AHCCCS called today and said they got my report already and have turned it into the Dental department. They have started an investigation. They thanked us for the photos and the letter explaining in great detail. She said not to worry, it was not going to be swept under the rug. So this was good news. Now if I would just here something from ADA, I would feel much better.

That's what she had for dinner tonight. A popcycle. Poor little thing, but she doesn't complain. But every time I look aat it, it pisses me off all over again. I'm kicking ass and taking names, that's for sure.

Good grief. I went to the dentist at least once a year through my childhood and sometimes more often, and I was never drilled anywhere I wasn't supposed to be. Good luck bringing this jerk to the attention of the appropriate professional body/

God, this reminded me so much of the school dentist I was sent to when I was somewhere about 7 or 8. He was an absolute butcher - he ended up stripping a chunk of skin off the roof of my mouth when pulling a tooth (without anaesthetic - it was 'just' a milk tooth, and he believed in pulling those the moment they became even fractionally loose so that the second teeth would grow in straight) then because I'd screamed about it all he told my mother never to take me back. (It was another ten years or so till I went back to a dentist again, and that was only because we got a personal recommendation for one.) I'd hoped that that sort of thing was history; I'm really sorry to learn that it isn't. You really do need to complain - loudly - both for Sam's sake and for the sake of the other poor kids he's butchered. You have the photos to prove it. With luck he'll lose his license. Someone like that doesn't deserve a job.

I've got all of the paperwork for filing a complaint to the ADA and I've contacted a few other people about it. I hope he loses his license too.

That's horrible, Patt. No little kid should be made to suffer like that.

Suing the bastard has nothing to do with being sue-happy. It's making sure his insurance rates go so high he has no choice but to leave the profession.

Definitely report him to the Board, and to the State as well. It's no wonder some people need anti-anxieties to get through a dental visit.

I'm busy, busy, busy taking care of this. I've got the letter written, the forms filled out and ready to go. We're on top of it. :) This guy is going down. Sam's mouth is so much better today. I have a feeling the mouth heals quickly, because it doesn't even look like the same tongue. LOL

I'd report his ass to the medical board and anyone else who controls his license. You might also want to write a letter to his office if he has partners. You could also write to whoever allows him to work on AHCCCS, too. Hell, I'd write to a ton of people and let them know. They might not do anything, but you can bet this isn't the only time this has happened. Maybe if enough people complained, something would be done. A guy like that shouldn't be near children or anyone else for that matter.

SOB needs a good kick in the ass. Imagine if Jim or Blair got hold of his ass, now that would be something.

Already done, Chris. I mailed off all of my complaints this afternoon. I figured why waste any time. This guy knows I'm unhappy so he's probably getting ready himself for the fight of his life. I'm not letting it drop. The ADA had been notified and so has the state. So he's in deep shit right now. I couldn't be more happy.

My dentist, a dear, dear man is a teaching dentist and the last time he worked in my mouth he had two students with him and showed them how to always position their own fingers between the patient and the instruments so that they would hit their fingers instead of the patient's tongue or gum if they were to slip.

First do no harm.

Since we turned him in to the ADA, I doubt that we would be welcome anyhow. And we're looking for one now. Not that we need it for another six months. But still, pays to look ahead.
