Crunchy questions

What are your thoughts on privileged actors portraying or taking away roles originally meant for marginalized groups (ex, cis actors portraying trans characters, non-disabled actors portraying those with disabilities, white people taking on roles meant for POC, etc)?

I don't like it when they use someone else. An example: when the big movie came out with Marlene Maitlin, who is deaf. I loved that they used a lot of deaf people. Therefore, I was thrilled with the movie.

I really dislike any movies where they portray Native American roles with white people. I've noticed there are more and more Native actors and actresses. I like to see that happening.

Hispanics could easily play Hispanic roles. Same with black people.

Now, having said that, I thought Gary Senise really lost his leg, instead of it being special effects. (In Forrest Gump) How do you feel about that?

As another example, there is a movie called One for the Money. The actor is supposed to be a good Italian cop. They gave the role to Jason O’Mara. Like, there were no Italians to fill the role. And this ruined the movie for me. The movie sucked, by the way.

I am attracted to movies with diversity and accuracy, repelled by those without. Like casting a white actor to play Khan Noonien Singh -- what, they couldn't have picked up a fucking phone to call Bollywood? Do Not Want. Prey is still on my to-watch list for its Comanche soundtrack and mostly-tribal cast.
