My doctor just called.

The spine MRI showed a ruptured disc, but he said if I do alright with it like it is, I should leave it. He doesn't recommend surgery to anyone when it involves the back. Then he said that the brain had a lot of white spots, which usually means, MS. I have to see a specialist in November for that. The soonest I could get in, was November 7th. So for right now, I will just do some research on MS and find out what it is. This wasn't the news I was hoping for. I was really hoping for a pinched nerve. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm in a little bit of shock right now. I'm anxious to see the Neurologist so he can explain things to me.

I have friends with MS. Not a great diagnosis to be sure, but it's very 'individualized' with long remissions possible and little disability beyond the need to manage energy for years. More a chronic condition than acute. Back exercises might help your spine. Will you be seeing a physiotherapist?

I'm seeing a Neurologist on NOvember 7th. So I'm not going to panic or anything. I'm sure he'll be able to tell me more about the disease. I have a good friend with MS, so I'm familiar with it already. But lots of research will be done now. Thanks for the good thoughts, Marilyn.

My doctor was really happy about the results because he was afraid I had a brain tumor. MS is much easier to deal with than a brain tumor. So I've got a much better outlook then if I was having to deal with brain tumor. Right? I'll be fine, it's just a little bit of a shock to begin with. I'm better at the news already.

MS is a tough diagnosis and there are several kinds. And right now, you don't know you have MS, only that it's a possible explanation of the results you have. What's important is that it's a manageable condition, if it's what you have. Try not to worry too much until you know for sure.

Oh, I'll be fine. I tend to freak out at first. I'm already calmer. I have my doctors appointment made and I have a list of questions and tests to ask about. I'm getting prepared. Thank you for the hugs.

Thank you, CHris. I found a spot online that tells you what questions to ask. It's great. I'm not nearly as worried about anything now. I have to have more tests of course for the specialist and then we'll move on from there. I'm sure I'll be fine.

Oh, dear. I was really hoping it was nothing more than a trapped nerve. Though MS... I worked for several years (till I was transferred to another school) with someone who had MS and for months at a time she'd be totally OK; two or three times a year she felt a bit off and had to go to the doctor; she'd be off work for a couple of days, then she'd be fine for another four or five months. So it isn't necessarily a major problem. (((hugs)))

Thank you, Sheila for telling me about your friend. I could handle that, easily. Although they haven't done 'all' the tests yet, so I think they'll hold off on telling me that for sure until it's done. I'm thinking, swimming might be a good way to exercise and relax. So looks like we might be joining a gym.

I guess, on a positive note, it can't be too serious, because then they'd get you in to see the neurologist right away. So maybe the fact that you don't have an appointment for about a month is a good sign?

My aunt has had MS for many years now so it's something I'm familiar with through her experiences. She gets tired and needs to walk with a cane but she's still very active and travels abroad often.

Oh, that not-knowing is the hardest part sometimes. Lots of times actually... I think you're doing a smart thing trying to educate yourself (though man, it's not hard to get freaked out about even a hangnail when you start reading about it online :-)). Sounds like there are a lot of positive stories should that be the eventual diagnosis, so I imagine that helps too. I hope that you will get a speedy diagnosis once you see the specialist! *hugs*
