I met someone yesterday that got me thinking...

he said he was a sniper in the service in Cambodia and when he got back he had to register with the state that he lived in for being a sniper. He then went on to tell us all about different things he did as a sniper and I wondered why it wasn't classified. I can't imagine being a sniper and telling everyone about what I did. The part about registering for being a sniper until he's 50 cracked me up. Do you suppose this is true? And why would it change when you're 50? These are all questions I wanted to ask him, but thought maybe he would have to kill me if he told me. ROFLMAO

DH was also a sniper (Marine) and in recon in Viet Nam (and in Laos and Cambodia) and said he's never heard of anyone having to register as a sniper, either until they're 50 or otherwise. Of course, he's 57 and only lived in Indiana and Nevada after he left the Marines (he turned 50 in Nevada) and it could be different in different states; he says he doesn't know.

I bet the guy you met could tell you hair-raising stories! DH sure can! He didn't know he was in Cambodia and Laos when he was there - they didn't tell the guys where they were going and would've denied any knowledge of them being there if they'd been caught. Scary stuff.

OKay, so now I know that you don't have to register. I wonder why he said that. What a kook. Well it gave me some fun thoughts to laugh about. He was a trip.
