Crunchy questions

What are your religious/spiritual beliefs, if any? Were you raised with those beliefs? If not, what beliefs were you raised with?

I believe there is a higher power and I pray sometimes. I was raised catholic. Every now and then I go to church. I’m just not a big church person.

I used to like going to church but then I had children and it just became too stressful. Churches can be very soothing places.

I find church very uncomfortable but that's because it's always stone cold and the Victorian-age wooden pews are terrible on my back. I think I would go more if the seats were comfortable and it was a decent room temperature.

I was raised in a very fundamentalist church as a General Baptist. We weren't even allowed to play with the Catholic children across the street. I'd sneak and do it anyway, but still... there was a lot of prejudice against Catholics at that time. It was very strict. And we went to church a lot. We had Sunday school, Sunday morning and evening service and Wednesday was Pray meeting at 7:30.

I was never comfortable with religion even as a child. They'd say the most outrageous things and I'd want to lift my hand to debate and explain why none of it made sense. In fact one of the Sunday school teachers told me the devil made me ask why women weren't allowed to be preachers or why non-Christians would go to hell if they'd never even been taught about our religion? Make it make sense.

At any rate I begged my mom not to force me to go to church with the family once I turned 16 and she stayed true to her word. I've never been back except to go funerals or weddings.

There's so much hypocrisy, brainwashing and manipulation. I've always admired reason and I find most religions don't have anything reasonable to teach. That's especially true when it comes to those people who use holy books like The Bible to push hate and try to strip people of their rights.

While I admire the Golden Rule to treat others as you would want to be treated, I don't admire people who call themselves Christians and do anything but that.

So, I'm definitely not religious. Is there a higher power? I don't know. I think that would require more order to the universe than I think exists. I'm fine in people believing whatever makes them happy as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. Plus, I'm a huge believer in separation of Church and State. We lose that and we're doomed.

They are soothing. Sometimes I watch a mass on tv on Sunday. Not often.

I never thought about that. Yes, they are cold and the pews are like sitting on rocks.

I agree with everything you said. Catholics taught homosexuality wwas forbidden but yet it's no where in the Bible. I can't deal with any religion that says you're going to hell if you do something they don't like. They don't even try to be kind. And we'll need help if they put god into the state. No place to have religion.
