I post all my stories on AO3 and after all these years I have a troll that leaves a comment about checking my work out because it’s AI generated. Called me a cheating author. I have received four comments so far. I let AO3 know in case they could possibly stop it. It was very upsetting. I’ve been in the Sentinel fandom for 24 years and this is a first. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Hugs, Patt

Sorry you're having this problem! Fandom was never perfect, but there are some nasty people on the internet these days. I don't know what this person's problem is. I guess they're on a crusade, but it should be obvious that you aren't using it since there was no such thing as AI 24 years ago! It's sad that some people have nothing better to do with their lives than harassing innocent people.

Did you know there is a way to block people on AO3 now? Just go to My Preferences, and Blocked Users.

A friend on LJ had this too. She thinks it's a spambot trying to sell a program that proves whether someone has used AI in writing a fic (which I assume is a load of nonsense with a scammer behind it). Best to report and don't take it personally. My friend says a lot of people she knows on AO3 have had it, though so far I haven't been targeted.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, Patt. I know someone on QRI who had this problem. I don't know what he did about it, but it' good to know AO3 gives you the option to block these idiots. Good luck.

And Happy Easter!

I've been writing nearly as long as you have and I got the same kind of message on one of my new SG1 snippets just last week. Another friend, also another long time author, got one as well. I deleted mine, but she reported hers to the AO3 team and was told they were aware of it and it's an ongoing investigation about spambots. Apparently, they're trying to sell software that spots AI generated work.

It's like so many other annoying things going on, spam is everywhere. It's why I deleted my Tumblr account. I was getting three to five porn spambots every single day. It got old quickly. But this AI bullshit is just that, more bullshit.

It's definitely a modern annoyance. I have to admit to being shocked when it first happened and took it personally. Now, like you, I'm over it. Good luck.

It's a form of spambot, and as with all of those, never click on the links. :-) The internet is continually finding new ways to be annoying, alas.
