Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

The book that meant the most to me in my life was To Kill a Mockingbird. I never dreamed that people were treated that way because of their skin color. I led such a sheltered life in Iowa. It has stuck with me all these years and remains my favorite book and movie.

tv show: The Sentinel. This is when I first learned about slash stories and how fun it was. I love Jim Ellison and Blair Sandburg. Here I am 20 years later, still doing the same thing.

I had To Kill a Mockingbird as one of my Year 10 texts - I fell in love. I bought my own copy and still have it on my shelves. Just some of those lines....

"Winter and a man walked into the street, dropped his glasses, and show a dog. "

It truly is a wonderful book. We're raising our 11 year old grand-daughter, have been for almost two years, and she saw To Kill a Mockingbird on the screen and fell in love with Atticus Finch. :) She was shocked at how poor people were and I had to talk to her about how some people still are. When she is 15, I'm getting her the book and the movie for her birthday. I know she'll love it as much as we all did. And you're right, simple words meant more in that book then I ever dreamed.

What a great book that is! Not just the portrayal of black vs white, but the telling of the story through the eyes of a child. Wonderful!

I wanted to put Elephant Man, but cried when I thought of it. It was so sad. And then I was going to put The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, but there again, sad, sad, sad. They were both excellent books, just didn't want to depress anyone at the same time.
