It'll be a year since my dad has passed and the military is having a ceremony for him with 21 gun salute and taps. I want to go, but dread it at the same time. I hate taps. Geeze, they always make you cry so hard. Anyhow, it's going to be a special day. We're taking our grand-daughter Samantha with us to meet her Great Grandma. She feels cheated that she can't remember my dad anymore. She was only three when she saw him last. She's nine, now. I have to tell you this funny story about my dad. Mom decided to move their bed to a different spot in the bedrooom and there was an envelope under the headboard, stuck to it. In it was a thousand dollars with a note to mom to use it for lunch with all of the children and grandchildren after he's gone. Now, isn't it funny that she moved the bed and found that? He knew he was going downhhill, we all just pretended that he was doing better than he was. If she hadn't have decided to change the room around we never would have found it until they moved the bed when she would be gone. So, mom said she's taking us all out on, dad. Isn't that just the coolest story? I love it. He was such a good man and was thinking about all of us even when he was going downhill. I'll love him forever. I'll miss him that long, too.

The ceremony always gets to me too even it is just for a show like on NCIS's finale for Gibbs' Dad. I can only send my HUGS and love and prayers for strength because I can not imagine when my Dad passes on to Heaven. I hope and pray that my niece gets quite a few more years so that she will remember him because she is just 3 now also. HUGS!!!

And her other Grandpa passed away when my hubster was only 18. So, none of our children got to meet him. They're very blessed that we had my dad as long as we did. He was 89. That's a good long life. Thank you for the hugs. They mean a lot to me.

He sounds like a hellava guy!

Those ceremonies are tough, but you'll get through it stronger than ever.

He was a hellava guy. :) We all miss him so much, but this was a nice reminder of why. I'm sure the ceremony will be fine, but I hate crying. Did I tell you that we're all wearing yellow again? That was my dad's favorite color. Just like at his funeral, we'll all be wearing yellow. My grand-daughter thinks that is so cool. She's 9, what does she know? Lol

He was. :) At first I was sad, but then I realized this was a perfect example of why I miss him so much. It's nice to have these memories.

I imagine the ceremony will be an emotional time for you all, but its a lovely tribute to him. That was a beautiful story you shared about your dad, I'm sure he was smiling down at her when she found it. Have a great family meal.
