Saw this tonight and am very embarrassed to live in Arizona.

we petition the obama administration to:

Peacefully grant the State of Arizona to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.
As the founding fathers of the united States of America made clear in the Declaration of Independence in 1776:

"...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government..."

The citizens of the great state of Arizona have the right to stand for their principles. That man is granted unalienable rights, which are not the dispensations of the government, but find their beginnings in God and come from God alone. These are the principles that our forefathers stood for, the principles upon, which our Constitution is based, and those in which we firmly place our belief and resolve.

A group from KY did the same thing. I think anyone who signed the petition should be put on a remote island somewhere and see how far they get without the government to help with roads, schools, hospitals, the military, and all the hundred other things the government does that people don't pay attention to.

I know and idiots scare me. I feel surrounded by them. Their answer is to let God run the country, I would guess. (sigh) Which God? Which religion? Even the idiots have tons of religions. They would have to choose one. It gives me a giant headache.

Separation of Church and State is the keystone to the US Constitution for a reason.

I feel your pain. Kentucky isn't a whole lot better, but at least I live in Louisville, which is the bluest part of the state.

I read that people in 20 states had started circulating these petitions. Like two year olds who want their own way, period, and throw a tantrum if they don't get it. These are the same folks who want to carry guns, stone gays, let the poor and sick and disabled starve and think rape is in God's plan. Where does free speech end and hate crime begin? The US is like a giant powder keg with a lit fuse -- scares the hell out of the rest of us around the world. Our only consolation is that more than half of you voted for Obama -- but the other nearly half of the population is increasingly terrifying.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, Patt - nothing will come of it. If they get over 25,000 signatures they'll get a formal response from the government; I think what the petition signers don't realize is that that response will be "No."

Actually I was thinking of signing the one for SC. This is for almost all the states now.

I think what some people are forgetting is the freedom of speech.

Let's be realistic here. If the petitions get over 25,000 signatures (which some have - Texas over 100,000) does this mean that secession will happen, NO. But these individuals will be given notice of their dissatisfaction.

Just as I agree there should be a separation of church and government, there should be some autonomy for the states from the federal government.

Look, Pat, there are situations and problems that your state faces that my state doesn't. Hence, state laws and state revenue. I honestly feel the federal government in some cases are trying to take over too much control of the states, such as their lawsuits over such things as voter registration or immigration laws. I think it is a waste of money as it is when it happens...money that could focus on such things as Sandy victims.
