DAd went for his first radiation treatment today and he came out and we all walked to the car and got in. He started driving and I asked how it went and he said, "I didn't have it today, instead they did another cat scan of my chest." Mom and I were shocked. No one called us back to tell us what was going on and he's 87 years old,(his memory is for shit) he just said the doctor wanted to see one more scan. FOR WHAT? They changed his appointments from 9:30 to 8:20 every morning. I asked if he was going to get the treatment tomorrow and he said, "I think I have to talk to the doctor instead." So I'm going in with himtomorrow. Whether they want me there or not. I think something might be wrong. They've already taken two scans at this center. *sigh* Then my poor dad is worried about me not goingn home today because my hubster is quite ill. I told him I was waiting for word from Rodney and then I would make the plans for the flight home. But Rodney said to keep it for Friday as planned. I'm so tired, it's unreal. Now there are three people to worry about in my family. *sigh again*

Okay, I'm done bitching. I'm sure everything is fine. I'm just being overly anxious.

Hugs, Patt

Don't forget to take care of yourself in all this. I know first hand how stress can wear you down and then you end up getting sick.

Sure doesn't sounds like people are on the same page for his treatment.

Thank you for your hugs. Today has been stressful. Between my folks and Rodney, I'm a mess. I'm going to bed early tonight.

The other thing is, they might have decided he was too sick to do the radiation right now.

I know the radiation my mom made her very ill and caused all kinds of side effects. Not something you want to hear, but it's better to be prepared. Write me off LJ if you want more details.

IMO, it's always a good thing to have someone go with the patient to these types of appointments. Two sets of ears are better than one and the patient needs someone to advocate for him/her. (And <lj user=grey853) is right - take care of yourself too.) *hugs* and prayers.

Thank you so much. At his main doctor appointment on Thursday, there are going to be four of us. We're taking no chances. There are a lot of unasnsweered questions.

That wasn't bitching, Patt, that was pouring out your worries, and you're entitled. Good luck tomorrow, and keep us posted.

I hope Rod isn't feeling too bad.

*hugs to you all*

I've seen last minute changes at cancer centres and hospitals when treatment is expected but more tests are ordered instead. Always disconcerting and worrying. I hope it's easily and quickly resolved.

You must feel pulled in all three directions. Is there anyone else who can be with your parents? Any other siblings, or do they have grandchildren who could help out? It's a bit much for them all to be depending on you alone. Especially as I know you have your own health challenges.

I hope you get home to Rodney on Friday as planned. You need to be home to recharge your own batteries, as well as be there for him.

Rodney is holding his own, so I'm not too concerned a bout that right now. He'll see a surgeon and then make an appt. for the surgery. I've just got two days left before I'm home,so I'll be just fine. I'm so tired though,I coould sleep for a week.

I was wondering how you were doing. Goodness, I'm surprised they didn't let you go with him from the start. If there was any deviation from the scheduled appointment they should have explained what was going on.

Thursday we should find out all of the answers to our questions. THis has been a very long three weeks. My dad is tired just from all of the running, can you imagine how he'll feel once he starts the actual treatments?

As with my father, what was so tiring was the sitting, waiting, and uncertainty.

Bless you and your family. A bit hug here.

It's my turn to experience it now. His first treatment went really well, but that's only one out of 35. Much more to come yet.
