Remember when I said my mom had been sick?

Turns out she had a heart attack. They let her go about five weeks without any care, just said her heart was enlarged and had to wait for the tests. (This still pisses me off to no end) Now they've put her on all sorts of meds to stop any further heart attacks. (they hope anyhow.) She has to carry nitro with her at all times, he said. Didn't sound that encouraging to me. So I'm going to be going down there the first part of June. Gosh, when it rains it pours.

Heart disease is rampant and women are the most misdiagnosed and mismanaged. Men get treated much faster and diligently, but not women. They don't present with the same symptoms as men and most of the research has been done on men. That's a fact.

Now that they know it was a heart attack, I hope they are able to give her the medical attention that she needs. Because of her age, however, if she has blockage, they will likely not do surgery, but give her meds. From what you've said it sounds more like an irregular heartbeat problem, and not blockage.

I found this most interesting, because they did ignore her symptoms. I thought it was just her that they were letting go without treatment. Thank you for the stats.
