There are times
Apr. 28th, 2009 10:41 pmthat I wish we lived in Canada for the health care system. My grandson who works, but doesn't make much money and has no insurance at his job, can't get welfare insurance, because he makes too much for that, had a seizure at our house on Saturday night. He's never had one before. He doesn't do drugs. The only thing he does is skate board on his days off and he falls a lot. I'm wondering if he's hitting his head and that might have caused it. He doesn't have the money to see a specialist, so he doesn't know what he's suppposed to do about it. *sigh* Hubster and I will probably foot the bill, but it's not fair for someone that works their ass off all week long, to not have any help what-so-ever with medical, while the illegals get everything they need, paid by us. He barely makes 7.00 an hour, so it's not like he's loaded and by the time he pays his rent and utiities, he's broke. I have a seizure disorder and I've lived with it since I was 26, and I'm doing fine. Maybe he takes after me. I have no idea what would have caused it. But we're worried. He's so young to have to worry about this. Poor guy. The icon is Vincent and his little sister, Sam. SHe's 4. Yes, they're 16 years apart.

Date: 2009-04-29 08:14 am (UTC)Im always horrified when I hear about friends in the US struggling to pay for medical tests and treatments. Like Canada - we have the National Health Service here and the most we pay is to cost of a prescription (currently at about £5 I think)
I have my fingers crossed for you all

Date: 2009-04-29 09:16 am (UTC)The healthcare system is broken, no doubt about it. I'm hoping Obama will soon get one in place that will help the working poor, the guys like you nephew who work and fall through the cracks when it comes to healthcare.
There's no excuse in a country like the US that every single person shouldn't have access to care without going broke.

Date: 2009-04-29 02:48 pm (UTC)It's horrid that those of us who work as hard as we can, but don't make enough, don't have children to get us on welfare or any options for assistance, are stuck just being sick. (welfare actually told me to either have a kid, or get a divorce! Since I had a hysterectomy 15yrs ago, and the other is NOT an option - I was appalled!) Here's hoping and praying someting can be done about the healthcare system.
He might actually want to see a chiroprator before a specialist. They are usually cheaper, and a good one can check his skull to see about soft spots, cracks, tears, etc. That's what I did about my memory loss and blank areas after my last head trauma. Rather than a very expensive specialist. Since nothing could be done for me, other than some anti-swelling drugs (ASPIRIN! HA!) it saved me a boat load of money.
Also, check walmart to see what drugs he might be given are in their $4 month plan. But I am sure you know about that one! Walgreens and the rest do it, too.
Good luck, and I will be praying for all of you. (I do read, just not always have the time/energy/attention - or words- to comment).
Snuffles is sending you roses, to help everyone feel better.

Date: 2009-04-29 10:48 pm (UTC)I'm so sorry about your grandson. I often have a hard time believing that such a powerful country as yours can leave its citizens without full-time health care. It just boggles my mind.
I hope you find out what the problem is and that it doesn't cost you a fortune.
