Thanksgiving

This will be our first Thanksgiving alone and it feels weird. To not have any of the kids home will be odd to say the least. I asked Rod to invite someone from work that hasn't got family, but he said that everyone there has a large family. Bummer.

Is everyone around here doing a big family thing? Let's hear about some of them, okay?

We'll be going to Bob's sister, who lives across the lake from us. I'll probably make creamed spinach (frozen spinach and the spice packet from Lipton's chicken noodle soup *g*) and bring some desserts. Desserts are always good.

The kids are up in NY, except for the youngest, who's just relocated to North Carolina, and my sister will join them. I do miss holidays with the kids, although I don't miss the cold weather. (and anything under 70 is cold to me)

I actually wouldn't mind having a Thanksgiving with just me and Bob. (two years ago the family down here came to my house for dinner, and last year I learned they thought the turkey was dry and overcooked. :-\ )

Oh all of the food sounds wonderful. :) I do love Thanksgiving for eating. :O) I'm sure we'll do just fine by ourselves. We like each other's company and maybe I'll rent some new movies while I'm at it. He loves to watch movies. (That's the ticket)

We are doing the holiday totally on our own, just me and Jessie. I always cook a big thanksgiving dinner and we eat leftovers for days after. We plan to eat, sleep, watch a few movies, unpack some more and hang our pictures...and play with the cats. Watch a few sunsets, write fun fiction..that sort of thing. I can't wait for 4 days of nothing to do save what we want to.

The relaxing part does sound nice, doesn't it? :) I'm going to rent some movies that are oldies but goodies and we'll have a marathon. LOL Maybe we'll go up to his office and get some things hung on the wall. It's his new office and that would be something we could do together too. He's excited to have days off. :) You and Jessie have a wonderful four days and we'll be thinking of you.

We always go to my brother's on Thanksgiving Day. He makes enough food for an army. (or to choke a horse!) Turkey, mashed potatos, cranberry sauce, green beans, stuffing, gravy, pies, etc... My sister will make something to take too. Heather usually makes something like the yams. I haven't really had to do anything since Mom died (she used to make me help her, I was her kitchen assistant).

We've gone to Rusty's mom's house a couple times in the past, but it is too noisy for me. They are really loud people (and I don't really care for most of them LOL).

Well, you and Rod enjoy your peace and quiet. Then you'll be at Chris' for Christmas and you'll have lots of fun!

For years Thanksgiving was the holiday my sisters went to their inlaws (we got Christmas). A few times it was just my mother, my other unmarried sister in the area, and me. Last Thanksgiving, it was three sisters and a girl from Singapore who had nowhere to go. This year, one sister has decided on a biiig Thanksgiving. Her inlaws and all of us, so that will make it ummm 12 people, including two preschoolers. Which sounds like a lot, but is more the norm for me than three. When I was growing up, we never had fewer than 12 people at the table and often more (big family).
