when we got home from our trip, I finally got caught up on email and there was one from my Mom. She's going blind. We didn't even know about it. The right eye is the only one affected right now, but the doctor tells her to get ready for her loss of sight. She has Macular Degeneration. I'm sure everyone knows about it, but you always hope that your parents won't get it. My Mom is going to be 83 in a month and I can't imagine her without sight. (sigh) It's hell getting old, isn't it? I could see my dad getting it because his mom had it in her 90's. But not my mom. It's just so weird. And then we had four messages from the hubster's mom and he called her back. She said she had a mini-stroke. Hadn't gone to the doctor, her sister diagnosed her. (Honest to god, that's what she said. What morons) Rodney told her to go to the doctor and she said she would. So now there are two of them to worry about. Rodney feels like he needs to go back and see his Mom and he also thinks we need to go to Albuquerque to see my folks. My dad is going on 85, with emphysema so we need to see him soon too. (sigh again) Wasn't it just the other day that they were young?

I hope your week is going well.

Hugs, Patt

It's really difficult when your parents get older or become ill. My heart goes out.

Getting old really does suck, Patt. They'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you, sweetie. I'm still in shock, but I'm sure things will be fine. Just a change that we'll all have to get used to.

I'm sorry your parents, on both sides, are having problems ... really sorry about your Mom. My grandfather had that; it was a long time ago, but it seems to me it went fairly slowly. I hope there are better treatments for it now.

There are two forms of the degeneration, but Mom has the one that has no treatment at all. There is nothing they can do. Her sight in her right eye is almost gone and that happened in one month. I'm just so shocked. I keep saying, things could be worse, but right now that's not working for me. (sigh) Thanks for the kind thoughts. Hugs back at ya.

Oh, man, I'm *so* sorry that you came back from vacation to find all of that going on with y'all's folks. I'm *dreading* the day I start getting that kind of news about my parents. Dreading it.

I hate that we have to get older, because that means eventually they will be leaving us and I dread that. So for now, it means many more trips to New Mexico, which they will love of course.

Hugs, Patt

I'm saving all of this information for her when I see her next month. We're going to New Mexico and I will make sure she knows about it all. The left eye is still good, so far anyhow, but the doctor said it's in there, and it's only a matter of time and she'll be completely blind. She's taking it better than the kids are. I think when you get to be 83 years old, its a shock to just be alive, so they don't mind losing their sight. She really sounded good on the phone when we spoke. I'll see next month and see how she's doing. Thank you for all of the information. I'm sure it's going to help. Hugs, Patt

Thank you, Mab. This has been harder on the kids, I think then it is my Mom. But it's something we all need to get used to, and sounds like it's fast, so we're going to have to get control of the fear of our parents being old. 83 is old. And I'm lucky we still have her here with us.
Hugs, Patt
