What’s something you wish others knew about you?

Most people know this but just in case I'll mention it tonight. I write children books. I have four published.

1. The Well-Mannered Giant. This one is a favorite of mine.
2. Ride, Rocky, Ride. Very cute one.
3. I Thought I Saw a Lion.
4. A Calf named Boo. My 2 year old great-granddaughter walks around the house carrying it and recites some of it as she walks. She's so cute. And that makes me feel so lucky.

I have six that I'm working on right now. They are going to be so dang cute. Has anyone else written children books? Mine usually rhyme. My grandkids always loved that part.

Oh, good for you!

I've thought about it before, but never have. If I did, it would probably be middle grade or YA. Those are frustrating, yet formative years.

Rhyming children's books are the best.

I love knowing that! I’ll have to look them up if my interviews are successful and I end up with a suitably-aged classroom bookshelf to populate.
When my partner’s youngest half brother was five or so, I wrote a little book for one of his birthdays that was about him going on different adventures. Then my partner illustrated it. All of my published work (thin on the ground so far) has been poetry and short fiction geared towards adults, all in small one-off publications.

About twenty years ago, I had an idea I made the mistake of sharing with a friend, who in turn made me feel like it was the worst idea I'd ever had. I've never forgiven myself for letting it stop me.

The frustrating thing is, the friend literally said nothing. I was told her the idea on the phone, and when I finished, she just sat in silence on the other end for a minute or two until I finally changed the subject. For all I know, it had nothing to do with my idea, and she'd just gotten distracted - she did that a lot. So it might not have been personal. Even if it was, though, I shouldn't have let that stop me, and I'm sorry it did. Being for kids, it was a very innocent concept, and she didn't really do... innocent. So I can understand why it lost her. She was the wrong audience. Another friend had heard the idea and LOVED it, made me promise not to ditch it, but you know how it goes, insults - or perceived insults - land harder.

It was a long time ago, and the story isn't really "me" anymore. But I do think about it from time to time. If I do say so myself, the idea was good, although the kids would have aged, and I'm not sure how that would work in a kid's book.

ETA: Sorry, didn't mean to writer trauma dump on you.

I have another idea I've thought about.
