update on my dad
Sep. 2nd, 2011 12:54 amDad had the procedure for taking a biopsy from his lung. (Did I mention that they couldn't use anesthesia because of his emphasyema?) That was at six yesterday morning. They brought him back to the room and said it would be two hours before they could take him to x-ray to be sure that his lung wasn't leaking anywhere. (Sounds weird, doesn't it?) So they took him two hours later, brought him back up to his room and told him to relax and wait for the doctor. Dad and mom figured it would be another few hours before they saw him. About 15 minutes later, in walks a doctor and he told dad that first of all they found more abnormalities on the x-ray and secondly his right lung is collapsing. They needed to take him right in for another procedure that could hook the lung to his rib, inflate it back up again, and shoot it with meds that help heal and seal. (Again without any anesthesia.) This was all done at about 10:30. The doctor came back in and said that dad would be staying the night. Dad told him, he was 87 years old and they weren't going to tell him what he could or couldn't do. He was going home to sleep in his recliner last night. Finally they discharged him at 7:30 p.m. and the family drove him home to relax. He's exhausted, but doing pretty well. He won't find out about the biopsy until probably Tuesday, unless someone actually works on it tomorrow. Dad has to go back up to the hosptial tomorrow, be admitted again and have more x-rays and tests done. He is not a happy camper. I talked to him on the phone and he sounded so weak and frail. Made my heart hurt. He is surrounded by family so he doesn't need me there right now. But depending on the test results, I will be going soon enough. I will upate this post tomorrow with more news. Hopefully it'll be good news. There are just some days that I wish I lived closer. :(
Hugs, Patt
Update: Dad went up this morning at 7 and they kept him until 3:30 and finally took the tube out of him and watched him for another hour to make sure he was all right. He's home now and so glad that's over with. He's sore, but feeling better. So now, he doesn't care what the tests come back and say, because he's not doing any other therapy. Things will be fine. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. It helped me a great deal.
